Kangaroo Island Fire Crisis Update Final December 18, 2007

The fire at Kangaroo Island is either out or under controlled, thank God. However it’s really disheartening to know that the damage done by the fire need more than a decade to heal. I read on the papers that the increase of tourism over at the island might be able to nurse the pain.

If you have a chance and to show your support, please do visit the island okay!? None of the tourist attractions have been burned away, therefore there’s still loads to for your visual pleasure.

Above is a picture i took of a fire scarred land when i was over at Kangaroo Island, apparently there was a horrendous fire there a few years back too.

KANGAROO Island’s scarred landscape will take up to a decade to recover from this month’s devastating bushfires.

Conservationists now hold fears for threatened species caught up in the crisis.

Although the fires burnt out 100,000ha and killed countless animals, environmentalists hope enough animals made it to areas of refuge to be able to re-colonise.

The threatened species believed to have suffered losses include the Kangaroo Island dunnart, the glossy black cockatoo and the western and little pygmy possums.

Such other species as the tammar wallaby, the western grey kangaroo, the short beak echidna and various snakes, goannas and insects also would have suffered significant losses.

Kangaroo Island Fire Crisis December 13, 2007

It was shocking that my friend from Singapore actually emailed me yesterday regarding the fire at Kangaroo Island (KI). Singapore actually had reports on the fire situation here in South Australia?

For those who have no idea what is happening over here in South Australia, i’m depressed to inform you regarding the uncontrolled fire over at Kangaroo Island. I was just there maybe a month ago and everything was still going great, nice weather, awesome nature, stunning scenery, heartwarming wildlife (click here to read about my tours at KI) and it’s appalling to know that all these are under grave danger currently.

Firefighters are still battling to control huge blazes that are raging across an island near Australia.

Lightning strikes are thought to have sparked the bush fires on Kangaroo Island, which have so far destroyed hundreds of miles of scrubland.

Firefighters will be brought in from Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania as the battle continues against three big bushfires on South Australia’s Kangaroo Island.

A huge aircrane helitanker, capable of carrying 9000 litres of water, arrived on the island from Victoria as fears are held for heritage and farming land, wilderness areas and properties.

Watch the fires burning

Apparently, today’s the D-Day of the fire attacked island because of the bad weather condition. The temperature will soar up to 30 degree Celsius and the wind will escalate to around 75km/h by mid morning. All the hard work done so far on firefighting would have been gone down the drain if the weather continues to back the fire demon up.

WEARY firefighters on Kangaroo Island will face a new crisis point within hours, as weather conditions deteriorate ahead of the cool change they desperately need.

The Country Fire Service and an army of firefighters from interstate know that hot and windy conditions this afternoon could undo much of the containment work they have done this week.

Anyhow, the fire have already burned away 31000 ha. (football field) which it’s highly suggestive that it’s nearly or more than the size of tiny Singapore. Imagine Orchard Road lighting up in flames instead of holiday season decorations, /sigh. I wish i could take the Sealink ferry there now, and apply some the firefighting techniques i acquire from CPTC to put out that unleashed bitch.

Step, step, step, left, right, shield!

Let’s just pray that the fire will be put out as soon as possible, may the weather choose the right side to fight for, and my dearest animals to be safe and sound. An guilt arrow hit me when i saw a picture on the Advertiser (local newspaper). It shows a Koala bear fleeing from the heat scene, with a fire man fighting the fire at the background, /frown. Thinking of how slow the Koala bears move, i’m really worried if they made it out.

Will continue to keep you people updated on the latest news, or you can simply camp at AdelaideNow for the latest updates.

Beckham Bends It Against Sydney FC November 29, 2007

DAVID Beckham showed the way, not just for football in Australia, but for any sport daring enough to dream.

The match between Sydney FC and LA Galaxy last night could easily have been written off as a one-man gimmick staged purely for the benefit of its star performer’s backers. A contest sacrificed for corporate greed. Instead, 80,295 people put their faith and hard-earned cash in the athlete within.

I was informed about the match on television, however not having a television in the room didn’t aid much into the soccer deprive situation. The match results was the headline for the day on the Advertiser (Adelaide’s local newspaper), actually i meant Beckham’s freekick goal.

Anyway, Sydney FC hammered LA Galaxy by 5 – 3. You can choose to watch the highlight of the exhibition match here. Just in case you are interested in nothing else but only Beckham, you can choose to watch his freekick goal over here.

A debate was started in the tea room by me over Beckham’s abandonment of top flight soccer. As reported, he’s currently earning nearly a million dollars a week, and that’s really awesome i must comment. However, can money fill the empty void of playing at top flight against the world’s best?

Maybe, money sure does make the world go round. Maybe he moved to States for his family, especially for his wife. Maybe he wants to promote soccer to the other parts of the world (Australian loves Rugby and Cricket). Maybe there will be too many maybes to go about, which isn’t too good to go rattling.

Afterall, Beckham still has the approbation from the world, and i cannot deny his career’s success. Let just hope the unpopular sport in some parts of the world will become popular someday somehow, all thanks to Beckham.

My respect goes out to you, kudous.

Scums November 2, 2007

I was requested to watch this video just now, and the fiery anger inside me lead to this entry, please watch the video above. The 3 of them must be superheroes, because they should be hoping to be blessed with longevity. If their first wrinkle start to show, they better start worrying. Indeed i believe in retribution, and someday they will get to taste of their own medicine.

The 3 British assholes in the video probably weigh 200 kgs combined and they want a 67-year old man to ferry them on his human-powered trishaw. Throughout the ride, they were mocking him openly. When they decided they have made enough fun of the poor man, they pretended to have no money to pay for the SGD$10 ride and made the man follow them around like a beggar. The video clip ends abruptly but in an interview with “The Newpaper”, the senior gentleman revealed that they left in the cab without paying.

My Kid Could Paint That September 13, 2007

My Kid Could Paint That is a documentary about a 4-year-old girl whose abstract paintings fetched hundreds of thousands of dollars. She was a darling of the media, a target of art critics, and an alleged victim of manipulative parents.

In the span of only a few months, 4-year-old Marla Olmstead rocketed from total obscurity into international renown — and sold over $300,000 dollars worth of paintings. She was compared to Kandinsky and Pollock, and called “a budding Picasso.” Inside Edition, The Jane Pauley Show, and NPR did pieces, and The Today Show and Good Morning America got in a bidding war over an appearance by the bashful toddler. There was talk of corporate sponsorship with the family fielding calls from The Gap and Crayola.

I wish i came to this earth knowing what my talent(s) are, and the prodigy Marla is darn cute.

Beware Of Pet Camel August 21, 2007

Instead of studying, i am thinking about how dangerous a camel can be, somebody shoot me. Well, i’m just being concern for the general public right so give me a break.

I mean where can you find camels locally other than the zoo and there used to be a few a Tang Dynasty theme park (apparently closed down due to youknowhwat reasons), oh oh and they can really excrete like crazy. Ya ya, so beware, they might hump you with their humps.

A woman in Australia has been killed by her pet camel after the animal may have tried to have sex with her.

The woman was found dead at the family’s sheep and cattle ranch near the town of Mitchell in Queensland.

The woman had been given the camel as a 60th birthday present earlier this year because of her love of exotic pets.

The camel was just 10 months old but already weighed 152kg (336lbs) and had come close to suffocating the family’s pet goat on a number of occasions.

On Saturday, the woman apparently became the object of the male camel’s desire.

It knocked her to the ground, lay on top of her and displayed what the police delicately described as possible mating behavior.

“I’d say it’s probably been playing, or it may be even a sexual sort of thing,” the Associated Press news agency quoted Queensland police Detective Senior Constable Craig Gregory as saying.

Young camels are not normally aggressive but can become more threatening if treated and raised as pets.
