Remember, remember, the fourth of November.
Barack Obama elected 44th President of the United States.
I see no reason why this should ever be forgot…

I know i’ve been absent for alittle too long in the scene of wordpress and the apologetic feeling didn’t strike me until she appeared with that frown online, hence i’m actually triggered to find time currently to sit motionless in front of my desktop wordpressing (apparently i’m supposed to be in town already).

It’s really hard to go into detail about the army life because on many occasion i find myself vulnerable to be getting charged and sent to the detention barrack (military jail a.k.a. DB).

F.Y.I DB is horrible and i only heard stories about that God forsaken place. You are actually thrown into a three by three meters cell (nine square meters if you can’t calculate, you know what army does to you) with two more mates. That sums up to three people squeezed up, definitely not an ideal place for claustrophobic pals out there. With addition, you have to eat/sleep/shit there, picture perfect isn’t it? Every morning, there will be this special sandbag physical training, which you must carry a certain load of sand (twenty kilograms i think) and run around the parade square, hohoho.

Graduation from Basic Military Training (BMT) was a rather emotional event for me. Having to complete a twenty four kilometers route march before embarking onto the parade square to have my graduation parade with full battle order (field pack, LBV, helmet and gun), whoa, sense of achievement up one level. It was really nice that my parents took time off to travel down just to put on a jockey camp for their silly son.

Returning home never felt better i swear, your family and that particular soft comfortable bed, simply orgasmic when you fantasize about it during camp hours, totally whoa. Anyhow, when i start my engine ranting about all the nonsensical events that happened throughout the week and all the pain around my body, i could always secretly catch my mama wiping away her tears. Mama, i will not just be strong, but stronger i promise.

Graduating from BMT equates to bidding goodbye to your commanders (you know i love you despite all the crazy punishment you made us went through).

“Pumping position down, down down down (with acceleration), crutches position change, up up up (with acceleration), jumping jacks in position change, eighty counts of twelve, pumping position change, how many days in army already? Learn your lesson already?”

Yes, i’ll definitely remember all these 1x good one. Thank you Platoon Sergent Joe Wee and Sergent Azhar, you two definitely made my BMT an exceptionally memorable one. Orion company, hoo ah!

How can i don’t talk about my close buddies in BMT that encouraged and cheered me up during the darkest moment. For example, when your basha (tent) is at the bottom of the slope and it begins to pour, the very next moment it is flooded, muddy water all over you. I won’t go on and name everyone because the names might just send you into a complete swirl, i know you know who you are, very grateful indeed.

Just in case, if you need to hear more army stories i’ll be more than willingly to entertain you over the starbuck’s coffee table with caramel macchiato.

Anyhow, here comes the block leave that i deserve. Honestly and initially, it has been a frantic panic at the disco, when the parties/gatherings/chill outs/catch ups and et certa engulfs you. At a dilatory pace, they have been dying down and i’m starting to spend more time at home, allowing my physical self to catch up on more sleep and finally give my muscles some breathing space.

The above pictures are taken quite some time ago to celebrate my belated 20th birthday. In case you didn’t know, i spent my birthday in Tekong’s forest (second day of field camp), no one knew about it and i kept mum, telling myself, it’s just another day, live with it and grow up. I know some of you sent your well wishes on that day and deepest apologise if i didn’t reply you. The phone was only returned to me five days later and being a lousy old school phone, loads of messages obviously didn’t came through ):

In conclusion:

  • This year’s birthday was devastating horribly unexplainable.
  • I’ve actually thought of AWOL-ing (absence without leave) from army.
  • Ask me out before my block leave expires, apparently a week from now.
  • I need to shop badly and try to at least keep in touch with the current fashion.
  • Someone give me advice on the breakout on my face, totally zomgbbq.
  • Pray for my next posting, put me somewhere, where i can make a difference to this country’s army.
  • I’ve updated my wordpress, yay.

So keep your love locked down, your love locked down.

Videos from season two of Britain’s Got Talent. This year is filled with phenomenal child prodigies, and i’m simply left jealous. Why can’t i sing or dance as well, or to be exact, why can’t i sing or dance.

This kid has amazing voice. The fact that he’s being bullied, the strong passion to sing carries him on, and his voice causes goosebumps on me.

And this kid dances like there’s no tomorrow, the future for him on the entertainment world looks bright. Just imagine, imagine that you can dance like him, whoa, steaming hot is what i feel.

Go To Hell May 7, 2008

Go to hell, David Ford’s debut single from the US release “Songs for the road.”

I wish the song was titled something else, but this man is such an embarrassment of talent and creativity that I couldn’t not put it up.

Anyhow, something off topic coming up.

Yesterday, while my mama was in the kitchen, she received a call with a private number.

Caller: 妈!我出事了, 来救我!(Mama, i’m in trouble! Come save me) With a faint crying sound at the background.

I was standing beside my mama in the kitchen having some water. She started giving me this weird grin and begun questioning who the caller was, because her son was obviously standing in front of her, all fine. After repeated interrogations, the caller hung up, leaving a near perfect crime scene. Someone please call Horatio please.

Well, i’m not sure if the police ought to know about this, but i’m sure i have read about the recent scams online, e.g. i’ve been kidnapped or something along that line that will make your parents panic badly. Hence, people, please inform your parents/love ones about such abhorrent sightings.

Unfortunately, she mentioned that the caller sounded like me. Thinking back, perhaps, my mama would have definitely panicked if i wasn’t home and fell for the carefully planned trap.

Damn, scams these days have gotten into another level, purely sophisticated.

By the way, enjoy the song attached above.

Aunt Agony April 3, 2008

Dear Aunt Agony,

Please refer to the picture attached. I don’t want Environmental Engineering (third choice) at National University of Singapore (NUS), although the prospect portrayed ain’t a pollution of unemployed environmental engineers. You know the world’s polluted, everyone needs to play a part type of scenario, and they need environmental engineers. Okay, maybe not, but being a environmental engineer doesn’t seem to be as hip, what’s your say?

Chemical Engineering is what i want at NUS only. Oh, and how wonderful, online appeal doesn’t seem to work for now, or is it just for me?

Moving on, Singapore Management University (SMU) called, informing me that i’ve been selected for business management interview (first choice). Somehow, there’s a calling to do a business related degree, which in turn will put me in a better position to help my papa in future. I talked to my papa and he suggested going back to Chemical Engineering because there’s always a need (which is very true), but that’s just one man’s point of view, how about you?

Aiya, but also not like i’ve been selected yet and the interview’s still quite far away i must say.

Fingers crossed for Nanyang Technological University (NTU) application for Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, please don’t throw me into some random Environmental/Material engineering. Perhaps, please throw me into Nanyang Business School, might be slightly more delighted cause that’s my second choice.

How about overseas i asked myself in silence. I’ll apply right away after NTU give me an answer, the Australia’s great eight, and maybe try my luck at Imperial College (London) and University of Manchester, both based in United Kingdom, or are they too far fetched?

A point to note is that, United States dollar is becoming comparable to Australia dollar (1.3 times of Singapore dollar), so i might start scouting for some good American University.

Just a question. Will it be possible to secure a local university place while applying for other local/overseas university, i mean, once you secure a place locally, payment must be made, therefore, there’s no backing out or you’ll loose the deposit right?

Regards,
Spaced out boy.

Beat It March 19, 2008

Just Beat It, Beat It, Beat It, Beat It
No One Wants To Be Defeated
Showin’ How Funky Strong Is Your Fight
It Doesn’t Matter Who’s Wrong Or Right
Just Beat It, Beat It

Today’s going to be the first day of work, first time i’m actually earning money in my life, and it’s undeniable that there’s a tangling feeling of sensation of adrenaline rush to my heartbeat.

For your information, i’m working at Harvest Care (West Coast Recreation Center Branch) as a Programme cum Marketing assistant.

Harvest Care Centre (HCC) is the community service arm of Harvester Assembly of God Ltd.

HCC was registered under the Registry of Society on 18 March 2005 to meet the needs of the different segments of the community such as children, youths, families and the senior citizens by providing education, counselling, training and other relevant programme or activities.

Please don’t bother asking how much i am earning, because i feel that i’m kinda abused/miserable. However, thinking about the opportunity they provide for me to learn about personal relations, administrative work, marketing, planning, reception, teaching, supervising class and et certa, who cares about the mere few dollars.

The working hours are pretty weird. Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be 3.30pm to 7.30pm, Tuesday and Thursday will be 3.30pm to 9pm, while Saturday will be 10 to 2pm. If you are planning to look for me during working hours, i’ll be able to attend to you via mobile or the internet, outings will be tough.

Wish me luck then, hello goodbye for now.

JERO/ジェロ – 海雪 March 16, 2008

I was surfing around online and i chance upon this American hip hoper that does Enka, he’s none other than Jero (ジェロ). Prima facie, he’s like part of 50 cents crew, or maybe featuring T-pain doing the Shawty got low low low low low low low.

Jerome White, Jr. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on September 4, 1981) is an American-born Japanese enka singer. His maternal grandmother was Japanese. He is the first black enka singer in Japanese music history.

Jero majored in information science at University of Pittsburgh and graduated in 2003, and moved to Japan in the same year. Two months after arriving in Japan, he entered the NHK Nodo Jiman competition broadcast on TV.

His first single, Umiyuki (海雪, Umiyuki literally The Ocean Snow), was released in Japan on February 20, 2008. It entered the Oricon charts at number 4.

African-American people and the cultures are extremely popular among young Japanese, so many are hoping that he will be able to spark interest in enka in the younger generation. He held a concert on Feb 20 in Shibuya, a popular hangout for young people, and was received with wild cheers.

Via Wikipedia

You might be pondering what type of genre that Enka belongs to.

Modern enka (演歌 — from 演 en performance, entertainment, and 歌 ka song) came into being in the postwar years of the Shōwa period. It was the first style to synthesize the Japanese pentatonic scale with Western harmonies. Enka lyrics, as in Portuguese Fado, usually are about the themes of love and loss, loneliness, enduring hardships, and persevering in the face of difficulties, even suicide or death. Enka suggests a more traditional, idealized, or romanticized aspect of Japanese culture and attitudes, comparable to American country and western music.

Hope the song was enjoyable although it was kinda off balance, well, at least it mangaes to bridge cultures and generations together.
